Detroit’s Downtown Hoedown Moves to Comerica Park for 30th Anniversary

In its 30 successful years, Detroit’s Downtown Hoedown has grown so much that it has outgrown its previous riverfront location of Hart Plaza.  With wishes to keep the iconic event in Detroit, promoters have moved this year’s event to Comerica Park, where attendees can be treated to larger and more elaborate staging, better visibility and better facilities all around.

Detroit’s 99.5 WYCD Downtown Hoedown welcomes a star-studded lineup of over 50 artists, including Josh Gracin, Montgomery Gentry and Miranda Lambert, just to name a few.  The Downtown Hoedown brings hundreds of thousands of country music fans together to enjoy many of country music’s biggest national stars and up-and-coming Detroit local artists.

Excitement is Building for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix!

On the first weekend in June, the Motor City will once again sizzle with excitement as the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix returns for the first time in four years.  As the cars of the IZOD IndyCar Series, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Series and the Firestone Indy Lights Championship battle it out on the pavement, over 100,000 people will view one of the greatest race weekends in history.

Celebrate the Centennial Gift of Trees with New Blooms for Novi!

Travel back 100 years to 1912, when more than 3,000 flowering cherry trees were sent from Japan to Washington, DC, as a symbol of the friendship between the countries.  Now, fast forward to the present and make your plans for May 12, 17 & 19, 2012, where New Blooms for Novi will celebrate the centennial gift of twenty Sakura trees presented to the Novi community.

Novi has the largest population of Japanese residents in the state of Michigan and is home to more than 60 Japanese businesses.  The tree plantings will take place at four locations in Novi and community members and visitors are invited to share their wishes for the next 100 years by filling out a Cherry blossom shaped wish card, to be used to decorate wishing trees inside the Novi Civic Center.

48th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade in Southwest Detroit!

Beginning at 12 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2012, the 48th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade will travel down Vernor from Patton Park at Woodmere to Clark Park at Scotten.  The Cinco de Mayo Parade gives tribute to the Hispanic arts and traditions in the Southwest Detroit area and enables the community to show pride in their ethnicity.  Spectators can look forward to floats, traditional folkloric dancers, Low Riders and tricked out bicycles, along with local community groups and politicians walking the parade route through Mexicantown.
